Stamp 'n Doodle Snowman Challenge

Happy Wednesday everyone!
Since it is that time of the week again, I'm happy to announce a brand new challenge at

This week we would like to see your creations using
Snowmen.
Since it actually snowed enough for us to have a light dusting on the ground here in Indianapolis, I feel like the timing is just perfect for this theme.

The items used to make my card for this week were:
Card base: David Tutera
Cardstock and DSP:  Recollections
Button punch:  Martha Stewart
Tag punch:  EK Success
Glitter:  Hampton Arts
Ribbon:  my stash

Thanks so much for stopping by today.
I hope to see lots of fun Snowman projects over at
This would be a great opportunity to get another Christmas card or 2 completed!

Oh boy!

This card just makes me smile.  It's another great marriage of Cricut and Peachy Keen stamps.  In this case, the cartridge is Baby Steps and I love that cart!  So many cute babies plus loads of accessories and a fun font.  This little guy in the stroller is on page 52.  The stamp I used for his face is from the Peachy Keen Critter faces.  (I know, baby face from the critters?  It's there and I use it a LOT.)

I used a little chalk to give him rosy cheeks...too bad it doesn't show up better in my picture.  His eyes are, of course, filled in with Glossy Accents.  That makes such a huge difference!

The "oh boy" banner was made with an EK Success punch and a set of tiny alphabet stamps I got in the Michaels Dollar bin.  Just a bit of crochet thread and a couple of eyelets from my stash finish off the banner.

Hope you like this little guy as much as I do!

Hello, Lovely

First things first.  I'm not sure if this is a question or a rant.
The Disney Classics cartridge from Cricut.
Ugh.
I've tried several of the images and wind up getting really frustrated with them, my Expression, myself, and everything around me....Kind of the butterfly effect of crafting irritation.  Some of the pieces are so small insanely microscopic!  I realize that I just need to do larger cuts to increase the size of the smallest components.  But how flippin' big do you need to cut them so you can even see them?  The images are super cute; it just drives me nuts that I'm not able to use them.  Does anyone have any suggestions, a list of minimum sizes recommended, hints, clues?  I'll be happy to accept any help offered!

Whew.
I feel so much better.
Now, with all of that being said, I'd like to talk about a card I made using you know what.  Yep, I took a chance on the Disney Classics cart again today.  I decided to keep it as simple as possible so I used the adorable Flower from "Bambi."
Only Walt could have made a skunk so stinkin' cute.
(Couldn't resist.)

I removed the contours from the white layer in Craft Room because I have a problem making my layers match perfectly and those little lines only make that more obvious.  That issue is all me.  It has nothing to do with which cart I'm using.  I'm just messy.

The roses on the card were made using Flower Shoppe and their edges were inked with Distress Ink.  That great sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.  The pearls and ribbons were from my stash.

Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday

I tried my hand at a new technique after seeing a tutorial over at the Papertrey Ink blog.  If you haven't been over there, you must go take a look!  The design team is made up of some the most extraordinarily talented ladies I've seen.  The tutorials are thorough and always inspires me to broaden my horizons.  This week's Make It Monday was about white crayon resist.  I love the results that Heather achieved.  You can see her complete video here.

Like I said, I did give it a try and look forward to doing it again with a better crayon.  The only white crayon I could find was an itty, bitty piece....barely enough for my sausage large fingers to hold onto.

Using that technique, a sketch I found over at 365 Cards*, and my scrapbox I came up with these 4 cards.  It's interesting to see how different they look using same technique and sketch just changing colors and embellishments.

*The challenge at 365 Cards also includes making a patchwork which I didn't do so this card will not be submitted over there.  Guess I need to get to work on a patchwork card for my friends at 365!

The one with the oranges and purples is definitely my favorite.  Today.  (It will probably change tomorrow.)  Right now I'm just in a bright color kinda' mood, I guess.

Combining challenges

So I just started doing challenges a couple of weeks ago and I feel as if I need to attend a meeting that begins with me saying, "Hi.  I'm Roberta and I'm a challenge addict."

Today I've been working on several cards but wanted to get these 2 posted real quick.  The color scheme was decided by the great Tuesday Color challenge at Outlawz.  Here is their color combo:

And the layout was decided by the also great sketch for the Super Sketchy Sunday challenge at 365 Cards.  Here is the sketch:

And here are the cards I made using only what I could find in my scrap box, by the way.  That matches up with the Super Scraps Saturdays challenge at Hiding in My Craftroom.

The card with the green background pops a bit more than the yellow one so that will be the one I submit for challenges.  You can find it at the following sites:

Genealogy and cards....What a combination!

I had been thinking about doing this card for quite some time.
I just kept seeing all of these incredible cards, tags and altered art items using vintage photos and thought, "How cool would it be if I only had some images like that?"  Duh.  I'm an amateur genealogist....I have loads of those images!  So then when I saw a challenge for anything with wings I knew it was time.

I started with a photo of my Mother-in-law, Carol,
when she was about 10.  (Can absolutely hear her Mother telling her to stand up straight for the photo!)

Here are the steps I used to make this card:

  •  I printed the photo with my home laser jet printer onto light weight white card stock.
  • Next, I did a faux water color treatment of her collar, buttons, hat and socks using Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet distress ink before fussy cutting it.
  • For the base I used a dark coral toned card stock from my stash.  And all of the mats are dark gray Bazzill.  I think it's Blackbird but I'm not positive.
  • Using Papertrey Ink Stampers Select White card stock, I stamped second generation stamps from the Harvest Berries and Guidelines stamp sets for the main patterned paper.    The greeting is also PTI.  It's from the Birds of a Feather set.  Yes, I have started to develop a serious love of all things Papertrey Ink!  The background paper was stamped with Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet and the sentiment was done with an unknown black stamp pad.  (It's kinda old so the color ends up being more of a dark gray and matches the mats better than any other black ink I currently have.)
  • I used a little scrap of DCWV paper for the horizontal piece of  patterned paper.
  • Inking around the edges of all lighter colored papers was done with more of the same distress ink.
  • To get the sentiment layer, I cut the main piece with an EK Success punch and layered in on Bazzill dark gray card stock. For the corners of the sentiment mat, I just used a good, old fashioned paper punch and notched out the corners to match the contour of the EK Success punch.
  • The wings were cut using my Cricut and the Art Nouveau cartridge at 3 1/2 inches.  They are the butterfly wings trimmed way from the body of the butterfly.  After I layered the base cut and the Layer 1 cut, I filled the spots in with Glossy Accents.
  • I added 3 tiny coral brads to the sentiment block and a bow of seam binding I had colored with none other than Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet.Hope you enjoy the card!

It was really a lot of fun to do.  And that's a good thing because my hubby has 3 sisters and now I need to make 2 more of the same card.  I'd never hear the end of it if I sent a card like this to just one of them.  I'd love to send one of this card to each of them.

These are the challenges I'll be participating in with this card:
